Where to Eat Pizza in Naples, Italy

The best pizza in the world is from Italy, right? Well, did you know the best pizza in Italy is in Naples? That's because pizza was invented in Naples, or Napoli (as the Italians would say). Here you can find amazing and inexpensive pizza—5 euros or less for an entire pizza!

So, if the best pizza in the world is in Italy, and the best pizza in Italy is in Naples, does that mean Naples has the best pizza in the world? You be the judge.

These are the top 3 best pizza places in the world (in Naples). You can trust me, not just cause I freaking love pizza, but also because my boyfriend is from Naples. He approves this list. I hope you do too.

Let's get cheesy.

1. Da Michele. (www.damichele.net)

This place is commonly refered to as “the pizza place from Eat, Pray, Love”. But, if you’re from Naples, Da Michele is simply Da Michele. It's legendary, no nickname needed.

Admiring the beauty of Julia Roberts

There's even a small photo of Julia Roberts from the movie!

This place is very historical. In fact, the place's full name is L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele, and they've been making pizza there since 1870.

At Di Michele, they believe in traditional pizza—nothing fancy, just the classics. Here you can only find three types of pizza, margherita, marinara (vegan!), and margherita with double mozzarella.

Because this place is so famous, made even more so by Eat Pray Love, expect a wait. There are no reservations. You simply tell them how many people are in your party, and stand outside for an hour until a table is available. It's worth it.

PROTIP! If you really don't want to wait, come at noon or 1 pm, when there won't be much of a line, especially on weekdays. Evenings around 8 pm will be the killer, In fact, one of the guys who works there told me that if you arrive at 8:30 pm, you can expect to eat at 11 pm.

Important note about Di Michele: It's closed on Sundays.

Di Michele gets #1 on this list because of its fame and history. This is the place most people go to when they visit Naples, but there are others on this list that are also well worth your time.

Sorbillo magic

2. Sorbillo. (http://www.sorbillo.it/en/)

This one is my personal favorite in Naples. It's definitely the best, or close second, in the eyes (and mouths) of locals.

Unlike Di Michele, at Sorbillo's, you'll find more options for your pizza than just Marinara or Margherita. In fact, the menu here is full of choices. If you've already tried a margherita, I recommend to try some of the other choices at Sorbillo.

An important note about Sorbillo: there are two Sorbillo's. One is in the historical city center, and one is by the water. The one by the water is more expensive (better real estate!) and in my opinion, not as good. If you have to pick between the two, check out the one in the center of town.

There's also a Sorbillo in Milan, if you want to find good pizza there!

3. Di Matteo. (www.pizzeriadimatteo.com)

It's a close call for third. Di Matteo isn't as busy as the first two listed, but is still a certified classic.

Mmm Matteo's

My friends came to visit me in Naples about a month ago, and they liked Di Matteo the best! This place is really good, and has more options for pizza, much like Sorbillo.

One great thing about Di Matteo is they offer pizzas that have won the Pizza World Cup! I didn't know that was a thing, either! With so many options, it's great to know you can easily pick a winner.

4. Starita. (http://www.pizzeriestarita.it)

I am so happy to have found Starita! It is really good, and another local favorite spot, but somehow I just learned about it this year!

If you go to Starita, you must get the Pizza Montanara. It's a fried pizza, and as good as it is unhealthy! Don't feel too health-conscious, though, as the pizza has super fresh ingredients.

Wherever you go in Naples, you're sure to find some great pizza. The dough, tomatoes, and mozzarella are sure to be fresh and super flavorful. The pizza in Italy, and especially Naples, is almost like a completely different food than pizza made anywhere else.

Head anywhere on this list, and you're sure to have tried the best pizza in the world.

Buon appetito!
